A bag full of trash was thrown by an unidentified person which caused the disruption of the operations of the MRT 3 for more than an hour on Sunday.
MRT officer-in-charge Renato San Jose said the operation of MRT 3 was suspended from 9:55 a.m. till 11:10 a.m. after someone threw a bag full of garbage at the train’s railings between the Taft Avenue and Magallanes stations.
The bag of trash accidentally got stuck at the line that supply power to the MRT trains.
“The garbage bag was discovered hanging on the overhead catenary wires, probably thrown from the pedestrian overpass in Malibay,” San Jose said.
The MRT official said they decided to suspend the train operations due to safety concern.
MRT personnel had to turn off the power supply from some sections of the MRT line to remove the obstruction. They feared the garbage would cause a short circuit in case it gets run over by a train.
The MRT operations was back to normal after the bag of trash was removed.
The MRT official appealed to the public passing by the bridges over the train lines to avoid throwing garbage at MRT lines so as not to affect its operations.
