MANILA, Philippines—In yet another reported case of abduction involving van-riding kidnappers, five male high school students said they nearly became the victims of a kidnap attempt last Thursday in Quiapo.
According to the victims, they were walking along Quiapo at around 6 PM when a white Nissan Urvan suddenly went up beside them.
A man then came out of the van and grabbed one of the boys’ bag. He also tried to coax the victims into going inside the vehicle, saying he was just going to give them a lift home.
Instead, the minors ran and screamed for help, prompting the man to make a getaway before local barangay watchmen could accost him. However, they did manage to jot down the van’s plate number, WOW 232, and which was also captured on CCTV.
The CCTV footage also revealed that the van had already been patrolling the streets for some time before the incident.
The students’ principal said the students have been several days off from school so they can rest from the encounter which left them traumatized. She also recommended that students should go home quickly to avoid incidents like these while also lauding the five for being alert and aware of their situation.
Police are now closely investigating whether the culprit is also the one involved in a series of earlier kidnappings. They are also asking for information from anyone that might lead to the arrest of the suspect(s).
On September 30, five men riding a van a******d a 21-year-old student along Edsa-Magallanes at around 7 PM. According to the victim, she was drugged and gang-raped before being dropped off in Bulacan.
Last November 4, a 14-year-old girl was also kidnapped at 10 AM near a high school in Makati and raped. She managed to escape her abductor after he pulled over in a gasoline station.
