MANILA, Philippines – Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell, who finished fourth runner-up on the recently concluded Miss Universe competition, shares the same thoughts and sentiments of millions of Filipinos who believes that Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa should have been part of the Top 5.
On the recently concluded competition, the Philippines’ bet made it only to the Top 10 of Miss Universe, breaking the consecutive Top 5 finishes for the Philippines since Venus Raj who finished 4th runner up in 2010, Shamcey Supsup who finished 3rd runner-up in 2011, Janine Tugonon who was 1st runner up in 2012 and Ariella Arida finishing 3rd runner-up last year.
Paulina Vega from Colombia was crowned Miss Universe 2015, during the coronation night in Miami, Florida on Sunday (early Monday in Manila). United States, Ukraine, Netherlands and Jamaica all completes the Top 5.
ABS-CBN News entertainment reporter Ginger Conejero, during her report on morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda” on Tuesday morning, shared that she was able to talk to Fennell after the Miss Universe competition, where she talked about the pleasing personality of Lastimosa.
ABS CBN News reports quoted Conejero, “After nung pageant, inabangan namin sila sa labas ng arena. Habang ini-interview namin si MJ, ‘yung ibang mga candidates na dumadaan dala-dala ‘yung mga maleta at gowns nila, sumisigaw sila na ‘We love you, Philippines!’”
(“After the pageant, we waited for them outside the arena. While we were doing MJ’s interview, some of the candidates who are passing by carrying their luggage and gowns, they are chanting ‘We love you, Philippines!’”)
“Si Miss Jamaica, nakausap din namin afterwards. [We were able to talk to her afterwards]. Sabi niya, ‘You know, Miss Philippines should have been right there next to me,’” Conejero added.
According to Conejero, even the other media personnel, who were covering the competition, were all impressed with Lastimosa.
“Binigay talaga ni MJ lahat and nakita at na-appreciate ng marami sa mga candidates, even other medias na lumalapit, they say na ‘Ang galing galing ng kandidata n’yo,’” she said.
(“MJ gave her best, most of the candidates saw it and appreciated it, even the other media [personnels] who approached us, they say ‘your candidate is really good.’”)
Conejero’s report also mentioned that even the judges and hosts of the pageant have a good impression of the Filipina beauty queen, adding that yearly, Philippines sends candidates who have “chance to really go for the crown.”
Shortly after the pageant result, Lastimosa took to Instagram to thank all who supported her, noting that she is proud to represent the Philippines in Miss Universe.
