Veteran actress Nora Aunor, known as the Philippine cinema’s Superstar and regarded as the People’s National artist, confessed on national television that she once had a crush on Vilma Santos (Ate Vi), her longtime reel rival and now governor of Batangas.
Nora Aunor was a guest on last Sunday’s edition of entertainment talk show The Buzz where she made the confession. Host Boy Abunda asked her if it was true that she courted Vilma Santos.
“At one point in your life, totoo ba na nagpadala ka ng rosas at nanligaw ka kay Vilma Santos?” Abunda asked.
(At one point in your life, is it true that you sent roses and courted Vilma Santos?)
The superstar admitted that, indeed, at one point in her life she had a crush on Ate Vi and said she’s not ashamed of it because it is true.
“Hindi ko naman ikinahihiya ‘yun. Totoo ‘yun. Mula kasi nung bata ako, idol ko talaga si mare. Talagang fan ako noon. Limang beses ko kung panoorin ang pelikula niya, ‘yung ‘Ging,’ ‘Trudis Liit.’ Talagang tumatakas ako sa bahay noon. Crush ko siya,” she said.
(I’m not ashamed of it. It’s true. She’s my idol since I was young. I’m an avid fan. I used to watch her films five times… the “Ging,” and “Trudis Liit.” I used to sneak out of our house [just to watch Vilma’s films]. I had a crush on her.)
Aunor went on to narrate how one day she waited for Ate Vi at the lobby of Manila Hilton Hotel from 7 in the morning till 4 in the afternoon just to give her a bouquet of roses.
Co-host Kris Aquino attested to Nora Aunor’s admission saying Ate Vi once told her a similar story. She quoted Vilma as saying: “Alam mo binigyan niya (Nora) ako ng flowers. Kursunada niya ako” (You Know, Nora gave me flowers. She likes me).
Nora said she considers herself a really big fan of Vilma Santos, the Star for all Seasons.
