Municipal hall ransacked by thieves

More than P150,000 worth of cash and other valuables was stolen from the municipal hall and a local businessman’s house in the town of Currimao in Ilocos Norte.

Thieves trespassed into the town hall to ransack a number of offices.

It was reported that the treasury, budget, and accounting departments appeared to have had the most damage.

From the municipal hall, the thieves made off with P5,000 worth in checks and P3,000 in cash.

Down south in the town of San Esteban in Ilocos Sur, a local businessman fell victim to yet another gang of robbers.

Trader Kansu Go Chan’s house was broken into.

Thieves forced themselves in and opened Chan’s cabinet containing his guns and ammunitions worth P145,000.

Reports showed they broke in through the window of his bedroom.

“[W]e should get active and … I should be responsible about this because we are responsible gun owners. We cannot [lose] our gun,” Chan said.

Police are yet to identify the thieves involved in both cases.
