MANILA, Philippines – Kapamilya TV host and morena beauty Bianca Gonzalez turned down an offer to use whitening products.
Despite the fact that many celebrities nowadays choose to whiten their skin, Gonzalez emphasized that she loves her natural skin complexion.
“A skin whitening company emailed asking to send products. Thank you, but I have no interest in whitening my skin – I’m happy being dark,” she wrote in her Twitter account.
With almost 4 million followers on the social media site, Gonzalez’ tweet quickly spread like wildfire gaining hundreds of retweets and favourites from netizens.
Several people expressed their admiration for Gonzalez’ decision not to join the bandwagon of stars patronizing skin whitening products.
Seasoned actress Dawn Zulueta tweeted Gonzalez: “ Good for you! Lets do away with the skin-color-obsessed culture.”
In a previous interview with Boy Abunda in the ABS-CBN talk show The Bottomline, Gonzalez revealed that she was bullied because of her skin color when she was in grade school.
“Sinasabi nila, ‘Negra! Baluga!’ Masakit talaga. I was grade two or three. Sila pa ‘yung popular kids. Ang pinakamasakit of all, ‘yung isang nag-bully sa akin, super crush ko kasi popular kid siya.”
(They call me a Nigre, dark-skinned. It was painful. This was done to me by the popular kids when I was in grade two or three. The most painful thing about it was my super crush was among the popular kids who bullied me.)
Last year, Gonzalez tied the knot with basketball player JC Intal in a private ceremony that took place in Lagen Island Resort in El Nido, Palawan on December 4. The couple previously announced the date of their wedding on December 10.
Gonzales, whose career started in 2001, became a household name after becoming a housemate in the Kapamilya reality show “Pinoy Big Brother” in 2006.
