After the young international singer Ariana Grande’s rendition of the Whitney Houston classic, “I Have Nothing”, during her concert with David Foster in Los Angeles, went viral online, ABS-CBN News posted via its Facebook account a photo of her side by side Philippines’ pride, Charice Pempengco, to ask social media users to judge “who sang it better”.
However, Charice was not pleased.
Using her Instagram account, Charice uploaded a screenshot of the Facebook post, and expressed her utter disappointment over the comparison, saying, “Please. Tigilan n’yo na ako with your “comparisons” with other artists. Magaling ang version ni Ariana. Pinakamagaling ang version ni Whitney. Walang nakaka-angat dahil iba iba kaming mga mang-aawit.” (“Please. Stop comparing me with other artists. Ariana’s version is good. Whitney’s version is the best. No one is superior over the other because we are all different singers.”)
She continued venting out her frustration, and said, “I’ve had it. Una sa lahat, napakalayo ng itsura ko kay Ariana, KAYA BA KAILANGANG PALITAN ANG PICTURE KO? Para makisabay? Malayo pa rin. Maganda si Ariana. Sobrang nakaka-offend. But I guess yun yung point niyo diba? Ma-offend ako.” (“I’ve had it. First of all, I look so different from Ariana, IS THAT WHY MY PICTURE WAS CHANGED? To level the playing field? It’s still different. Ariana is beautiful. It is so offensive. But, I guess that’s your point. To offend me.”)
The talented music artist uploaded a follow-up photo showing her short hair and slimmer physique, and captioned it with sincere acknowledgment of the unwavering love and support she receives from her fans. She also asserted her positive outlook in life despite the existence of other people who, she claims, try to “manipulate” others just to create a bad image of her to the public.
