This is the first time John Lloyd will do an independent film.  He said he is excited doing the film and see what he can do with it. The award winning actor also shared that many people have been waiting for him to do an indie film.

“Gusto ko gumawa ng iba kasi kilala ako sa rom-com lang. Meron naman na akong nagawa dati na hindi rom-com pero hindi yata masyadong naging popular,” John Lloyd said. (I want to do something else because I am only known for doing romantic-comedy. I did something before but it did not become popular.)

Now that he has grown in the business, he wants to do good projects.

“Dati kasi nung nagsisimula pa lang ako, kahit anong ilatag mo sa harap ko, tatanggapin ko ‘yan. (Ngayon) material-based na ako. Kung maganda yung material, bakit ‘di natin gawin?” (When i was just starting, I’ll take any role you give me. I am material-based now. If the material is good, why don’t we do it?)

The Manila Bulletin wrote how John Lloyd started in his showbiz career. The actor said he entered showbiz when he was 14 years old to help his family financially. His first appearances as guest were in several ordinary television shows, until he became a part of “Palibhasa Lalaki” in 1997.

In 1998, he started getting noticed as a part of the teen-oriented show “Gimik” followed by a popular teen drama, “Tabing Ilog.” The teen drama series was aired for almost four years, a big success which enabled him to be known in the industry but it was not until he teamed up with Bea Alonzo on “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” in 2002 that he was recognized as an established leading man.

After 18 years, John Lloyd is happy with how his career has turned out. He admitted that he is more careful now with the roles he takes on and is mindful of continuous improvement of his craft and the legacy he would leave behind.

“One of my biggest realizations is that you really have to love and protect your art. You should have dedication in your craft,” he said.

He added there were times when he did not like the material but had no choice but to do it. He learned how to appreciate what’s there and give all his effort to have good communication with his co-actor, directors and producers.
