MANILA – Amid insinuations by the members of the investigating panel of the Senate Blue Ribbon Subcommittee regarding the probe of the Makati City anomalies, Gerardo and Victor Limlingan denies they are Vice President Jojo Binay’s alleged “dummies” and “henchmen.”

In behalf of the Limlingans, a two-page statement was issued by the Yorac Sarmiento Arroyo Chua Coronel Reyes Law Firm to defend the two known Binay allies. However, one of the lawyers from the firm, Atty. Grace P. Reyes acknowledged that both Gerry and Victor knew Binay.

“Gerry Limlingan’s association with the vice president dates back to the 1970s. Victor Limlingan has known the vice president as Attorney Binay since he married in 1975 into the Araullo Family, family friends of Attorney Binay,” Reyes said.

According to Reyes, Gerardo Limlingan have been repeatedly called names at the Senate subcommittee hearing such as VP Binay’s “bagman,” “aide,” henchman” among others. He was also referred to with other dubious and reprehensible descriptions, which have circulated in various media outlets and by various media practitioners.

“(But) they are not “aides” or “henchmen” of the Vice President,” Reyes added.

Victor Limlingan, who is an alumnus of Ateneo University, obtained his doctorate in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. He was a former appointee of the late president Corazon Aquino, and also worked in the academe and in the private sector.

The law firm also said, Gerry Limlingan, who is described in newspaper reports as a lowly Binay-aide paid with a meager salary, was an economics graduate of the Ateneo.

In the two-page statement released by the firm, Gerry Limlingan was an “accomplished investor and finance expert with wide-ranging experience in the stock market and equity investments, trading bonds, commodities, futures and options and currency and sovereign debt instruments.”

Before he was implicated in the Makati City anomalies, Reyes shared that Limlingan, was merely focused on developing his personal portfolio and other business ventures, given his direct exposure to the financial markets.

Through the recommendation of Senator Teofisto Guingona III, chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee,  Gerry Limlingan and 13 others were ordered a******d by Senate President Franklin Drilon for continuously snubbing the Makati probe hearing despite having served proper subpoena.

Gerry Limlingan was accused by former Makati City mayor Ernesto Mercado as VP Binay’s alleged bagman. He was reportedly not found by the arresting officers from the Senate’s Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms (OSAA) at his known address.

Mercado also tagged Ebeng Baloloy, another Binay employee, as a bagman.
