Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino went to Davao to seek his support for the latter’s senatorial bid.
Mayor Duterte said that Tolentino went to Davao one weekend to seek his endorsement.
The mayor said he will be supporting the MMDA chairman whom he described as “one good friend” he has known since their “motorcycle days,” touring different parts of Luzon.
“Many many years ago kasama ko yan sa ikot-ikot ng motor sa Luzon (Together, we explored Luzon with our motorcycles many years ago). He is one good friend,” Duterte described Tolentino.
Duterte said he introduced Tolentino to Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, founder and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc. which has 6 million followers; making Quiboloy one of the most sought after endorsers. Duterte said he asked the pastor to endorse his friend in the coming elections.
Pastor Quiboloy reportedly agreed to support the MMDA chairman.
“Kapag mahusay ka na tao, wala ka namang record na masama, hindi ka naman killer, wala ka namang kaso sa human rights commission, ok lang kay pastor (If you are a good person with no bad records, you are not a killer and you don’t have a case in human rights commission, Pastor is okay with you),” Duterte said.
Francis Tolentino, a former mayor of Tagaytay City for nine years before becoming the MMDA chief, confirmed his gunning for a Senate seat on March 10, 2015 during a speech in the vote-rich Cavite. He will be running under the pro-administration Liberal Party.
