Since winning the first season of ABS-CBN’s reality talent competition “Pinoy Dream Academy” (PDA), Yeng Constantino has made wise career decisions, with phenomenal feats to boot, one after the other. It was only a matter of time before she decided to add another item to her long list of accomplishments.
In an interview, the country’s “Pop Rock Princess” expressed her desire to try writing songs for other artists.
The multi-awarded singer and soon to be “The Voice Kids Season 2” host said that she has informed her manager regarding her musical aspiration to share her skills with her fellow musicians.
The newly married “Hawak Kamay” and “Ikaw” hitmaker shared that it has always been a dream to follow the footsteps of Filipino icons like Vehnee Saturno, which is exactly why she makes use of her spare time to dig deeper into her songwriting gift.
She said, “Sinisimulan ko na po talaga ‘yun. Kapag mag-isa ako sa bahay ay iniisip ko ang mga singers, tapos gumagawa ako ng kanta for them. Malay natin.” (“I’ve already started. When I’m alone at home, I think about the singers. Then, I make songs for them. Who knows.”)
Just like any other composer, she also undergoes a certain process to arrive at an artistic mindset. She starts off by listening to the artist’s voice. Only after she has grasped the sound will she move on to crafting the song in a way that will stretch but not necessarily veer away from the artist’s style.
Constantino disclosed that she has actually finished composing a song for Angeline Quinto, which will be her first project should Star Records push through with her proposal. Quinto has listened to the composition, she said, and seemed to enjoy it a lot.
Erik Santos is next on her list, in which a draft is already on the works. If things go the way she hopes them to be, she would like to make songs for Sarah Geronimo, Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, and Regine Velasquez as well.
