- Susan Roces, mother of Senator Grace Poe, said she has nothing to say about Sheryl Cruz
- Cruz believes that Poe would be a more effective president if she runs in 2022, not 2016
- Poe just thanked Cruz, who is her cousin
Susan Roces said she has nothing to say about her niece Sheryl Cruz, who has been speaking publicly about her belief that her cousin Senator Grace Poe should not run for president in the next election.
In an article written by Jojo Gabinete for Philippine Entertainment Portal, the reporter quoted Roces, the wife of the late Fernando Poe Jr, saying: “Well that is her opinion. I have nothing to say about that.”
Earlier, Roces, through her talent manager Dolor Guevarra, admitted that they had not spoken to Cruz since she made public her opposition to her cousin running for the country’s highest post.
“The only thing we know about her (Cruz) is that her talent manager, Rams David, has decided to resign. We also don’t know why,” Guevarra said.
Despite everything, Cruz believes that her aunt will not take her opinion negatively.
“My aunt always respected our views and opinions. We may have different opinions of each other but at the end of the day, pamilya pa rin kami (we are family) and blood will always be thicker than water,” Cruz said.
Cruz also said she is not belittling her cousin’s capabilities, it’s just that she thinks this is not the right time for Poe to run for the country’s highest post.
“I’m not belittling her capabilities. It’s just that she would be a more effective president come 2022 and not 2016,” clarified Cruz. She denied that she is being used by the camps of other presidential candidates Vice President Jejomar Binay and Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas.
Meanwhile, Poe thanked Cruz for being concerned about her candidacy.
“I thank Sheryl for her opinion and concern for us. As family, we will continue to give her the love and respect she deserves,”she said.
