VIDEO: First ‘Captain America: Civil War’ trailer out

  • The very first Captain America: Civil War trailer officially released
  • The new movie will show the Avengers divided between Captain America and Iron Man
  • Captain America: Civil War will premiere on May 6, 2016

Fans of the Avengers got a sneak peek into the latest developments with their beloved superheroes as the very first trailer for Captain America: Civil War was finally released in a world premiere during the program Jimmy Kimmel Live.

But in this movie, it appears that the Avengers de facto leader Captain America, played by Chris Evans, has turned against one of their own; making the man in the metal suit, Iron Man, who is played by Robert Downey Jr., his next biggest enemy.

As Entertainment Weekly puts it, “it’s brother against brother,” in a battle that represents “the age old question of security versus liberty.”

Following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, some governments have begun to question the superheroes’ motives and even brand some of them, including Captain America himself, as vigilantes.

“Captain, while a great many people see you as a hero, there are some who prefer the word ‘vigilante.’ You’ve operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That’s something the world can no longer tolerate,” Steve Rogers, the real identity of Captain America, is told.

Captain America then becomes a hot target but things get even more complicated as his old friend, Bucky Barnes, was brainwashed into becoming the powerful assassin called the Winter Soldier.

While protecting Bucky, he also in turn antagonizes Tony Stark, the Iron Man, who had previously accepted some of the boundaries set upon him.

The ongoing rivalry divides the Avengers with Falcon, Hawkeye, and Scarlet Witch being seen in the trailer rallying behind Captain America while Iron Man leads another faction with Black Widow, War Machine, and Black Panther.

“Sorry, Tony, you know I wouldn’t do this if I had any other choice, but he’s my friend,” Captain America tells Iron Man about his decision to side with the Winter Soldier.

The man in the iron suit could only reply, “So was I” before the trailer cuts to a scene with the Captain and the Winter Soldier ganging up on him.

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, will premiere on May 6, 2016.
