- Binay reacts to mayor’s earlier remark saying he will support his bid if Comelec DQs him
- He thanks Duterte for the show of support
- He also points out he and Duterte have a lot in common when it comes to government service
MANILA, Philippines – If Digong supports him, then he must be doing something right…right?
Reacting to Rodrigo Duterte’s claim he will support the vice president’s candidacy if his own presidential bid would be derailed by the Commission on Elections, VP Jejomar Binay said he is thankful for the Davao City mayor’s vote of confidence.
“I am thankful for what Mayor Duterte said,” he told ABS-CBN.
At the same time, the Vice President also threw back compliments towards Duterte; saying both of them has similar track records and were thus qualified to run for higher office.
“I just want to emphasize that Mayor is very much qualified,” he stressed. “We both had the same beginnings. We are both models of correct governance in the executive department.”
Before the Comelec ruled his certificate of candidacy met the formal requirements, Duterte said he would support Binay over his erstwhile friend Mar Roxas if he ever got disqualified.
“I don’t care if I’m disqualified but this much I can say, I do not have any respect for you,” he told Roxas. “If Grace [Poe] and I get disqualified, then I will campaign for Binay. I will also tell the Filipino people why you should not be president.”
Roxas and Duterte have been on the verbal warpath ever since the former claimed the peace in Davao City is a myth. His remarks prompted the mayor to fire back and say the real myth is his credentials from the Wharton School of Economics.
The Comelec has yet to rule on the petition filed by broadcaster Ruben Castor questioning Duterte’s substitution for erstwhile PDP Laban bet Martin Diño since the latter’s original COC indicated he’s running for mayor of Pasay City.
