- Beauty queen and Bb. Pilipinas director says she’ll root for PH despite being Colombian
- She says she’s poured her heart and soul into producing the country’s beauty queens
- She’s also proud of her student Pia Wurtzbach for winning Miss Universe
MANILA, Philippines – She may hail from Colombia but as far as Stella Marquez Zawadski-Araneta is concerned, it’s the Philippines all the way in every beauty pageant.
According to the first Miss International and Binibining Pilipinas organizer, all the hard work she’s poured into the local pageant would be put to waste if she wasn’t going to support the country in the international tilts.
“I’ve been running Binibining Pilipinas for so many years, so don’t you think my heart should be here in that respect?” she told ABS-CBN. “I’ve poured my heart and sould in this, they will ask me what would you choose and I’ll say I’m Colombian but I would choose Philippines. That’s the way it is.”
Araneta also expressed pride over Pia Wurtzbach’s victory; saying she deserved it after working so hard in the Bb. Pilipinas pageant.
“She was learning constantly what to do and perfect her way of presenting herself,” she said. “I noticed her as she would be observing the other winners. Up to the last minute she was taking classes and she did it fantastic. It has taken so many years but we are lucky that we had a candidate this year that was ready to win.”
Araneta added she also hopes Wurtzbach would be given a hero’s welcome once she returns to the Philippines.
“[She’s] Miss Universe after 42 years of course, I hope all my sponsors will help me,” she said, before directly addressing her ward.
“Enjoy it,” she said. “It’s hard to follow orders for a year.”
