- Crowd chants “Darna” as Angel Locsin arrives at KIA Theater
- Angel admits she’s touched by the gesture of her fans
- She says she will never forget their love
MANILA, Philippines – Actress Angel Locsin was surprised when she heard the crowd outside KIA Theater in Cubao for the Manila auditions of “Pilipinas Got Talent” chanting “Darna”.
ABS-CBN News quoted her as saying: “Nakakaiyak. Siyempre pinaghirapan ko din naman ‘yon sa ginawa ko. Nakakatuwa na tumatatak pa din ‘yon sa mga tao. Hindi ko makakalimutan ‘yung pagmamahal na ibinigay nila.” [It’s really touching because I really worked hard for it. It’s nice to know that people still remember. I will never forget the love they gave me.]
Last year, Angel announced she had decided not to reprise her role as “Darna” in the planned movie adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s Filipino comics heroine because of the disc bulge in her spine.
She portrayed the role more than a decade ago when she was still under GMA Network.
An article by Philippine Daily Inquirer disclosed that when Angel was interviewed by veteran TV host Boy Abunda in the October 26 episode of “Tonight with Boy Abunda,” she said it is hard for her that she would no longer be doing the movie but she must because her own health is at risk.
She shared that the pain she feels because of the injury to her intervertebral disc is unbearable and there are days when she can’t even walk.
Last December, Angel went to Singapore and underwent the first stage of neuro-spine surgery to treat the disc bulge in her spine and she’s hoping for positive results after.
Now that the actress has started her road to recovery, a lot of her fans are hoping that there might still be a chance for her to portray “Darna” once more.
