- Coco Martin speaks of his devotion to the Black Nazarene
- He grew up going to Quiapo Church with his grandmother
- He still goes to Quiapo Church despite his popularity, stays in a corner or outside the church so people won’t notice him
Like the millions of devotees of the Black Nazarene, popular “Ang Probinsyano” star Coco Martin grew up going to Quiapo Church with his grandmother.
As a devotee, Coco said he won’t ever forget the time he was able to touch the Black Nazarene, an article published on ABS-CBN said.
“Sa fiesta ng Quiapo, sa dami ng tao, siyempre kahit ako natatakot ako dahil may mga namamatay doon. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, kaya ko ba ‘to? Noong ginawa na namin ‘yun, hindi ko maipaliwanag. Sabi ko nga, first time kong naramdaman na lumangoy ako sa libu-libong tao hanggang sa nahawakan ko ‘yung Nazareno,” Coco was quoted.
[“At the feast, I also get scared because of the hordes of people there. There are incidents of d***h. I then asked myself if I could do it. When we finally did it, I felt something unexplainable. It was the first time I felt like swimming among thousands of people until I was able to hold the Nazarene.]
Despite his present stature as one of the country’s biggest stars, Coco said he still continues to go to Quiapo Church to pray, express his gratitude and ask for guidance.
However, he would go there inconspicuously, pray in a corner or sometimes outside the church so people won’t take notice of him.
Like what has been the tradition for many years now, millions of devotees are expected to participate in the annual Black Nazarene procession.
