French Police arrested a man found carrying two handguns and a guidebook to Holy Koran at a four-star hotel in Disneyland Paris amusement park during a routine security screening.

The man, a 28-year-old French national and Paris resident, was stopped at the entrance of Disney’s Hotel New York when the x-ray luggage scanner detected the weapons inside his suitcase.

A Daily Mail article published on January 29, 2016 said the suspect was detained by Disney’s security before being handed over to the police, who found a box of ammunition and a booklet with the title “A Guide to the Holy Koran” during further searches.

The guns, two semi-automatic 7.65-millimeter pistols, were found inside cloth bags along with 2 magazines and twenty bullets.

“During a routine security screening checkpoint at one of our hotels, weapons were discovered in a guest’s luggage through our X-ray machine. The police were immediately notified and the individual was arrested. We continue to work closely with the authorities and the safety and security of our guests and cast members is our utmost priority,” Francois Banon, a spokesman for Disneyland Paris, said.

The man offered no resistance when arrested. The police was still looking for a woman believed to be a companion of the arrested man. Hotel staff said they had seen a woman with him when he booked a room for two people.

A woman, earlier arrested by police, was released after it was found out she was not the man’s partner.

The car used by the suspects, parked near the hotel, was cordoned off and searched for possible explosives.

A source from the police said during questioning, the man claimed that he carried the guns for his personal protection.

The French government is still in a state of emergency after the terror attacks in Paris last November where 130 people were killed.
