- Clark officials have allowed a private company to establish a 20-hectare amusement site
- The project is expected to boost the zone’s economy as it will serve as a tourist attraction
A project worth P135 million is about to rise in Clark, Pampanga as Global Zoo and Theme Park Alliance, Inc. (GZTPAI) kicks off the construction of a 20-hectare amusement site; boosting the economic status of the freeport zone.
In an article written by Amy Remo for Philippine Daily Inquirer on January 30, it was disclosed that GZTPAI has already conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday led by the company’s general manager, Ric Siccion.
According to the government-run Clark Development Corp. (CDC), the project, which will be completed in two years, is expected to hire at least 140 employees in its initial workforce.
Moreover, CDC officials also said that while the project currently covers only 20 hectares of land, the total area leased by the GTZPAI could be expanded up to 40 hectares.
On September 2015, the CDC and the GZTPAI have forged a contract that allows the latter to establish a tourist attraction composed of a zoo, a theme park, and other recreational facilities.
“Siccion said he decided to invest here because of the sound business climate in the Freeport, as well as the fast-growing tourism industry here and in the rest of the country,” the CDC said in a statement.
Siccion, who holds a private collection of tigers, imported birds, reptiles, and other animals, is also the president of Zoo World Inc. in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Being an animal enthusiast himself, his company has been listed among the recognized members of the Philippine Zoos Association (PhilZoos) and the Southeast Asian Zoos and Aquariums (SEAZA).
