MANILA, Philippines – Surrounded by her adoring fans and with fireworks lighting up the sky, Pia Wurtzbach couldn’t help but turn on the waterworks, too.
The reigning Miss Universe was seen crying tears of joy amid the sea of supporters who continued to chant her name at the Araneta Coliseum on Monday evening. Ever the beauty queen, Wurtzbach maintained her poise and kept on greeting and acknowledging her fans.
Later on, Wurtzbach thanked her fans for the support and said she hopes to be an inspiration to everyone.
“I’m so overwhelmed. Ngayon, nararamdaman ko na nasa Pilipinas na talaga ako. Sana maging inspirasyon sa inyong lahat ang istorya ko kung papaano ako nanalo sa Miss Universe,” ABS-CBN quoted her as telling her fans.
[Now, I really feel like I’m in the Philippines. I hope the story of how I won Miss Universe would be an inspiration to you all.]
Wurtzbach also expressed her pride in bringing home the crown and said she’s dedicating it to every Filipino.
“Like what I said before, my goal was to bring back home the crown,” she said. “And now we finally did it. And I say we, because this is not my crown, this is our crown. Para po ito sa inyo, para po ito sa Pilipinas. Maraming salamat po, mabuhay po kayo.”
[“This is for everyone, this is for the Philippines. Thank you very much.”]
