MANILA, Philippines – After reports that his latest movie “Beauty and the Bestie” has already breached the P500-million mark, lead actor Vice Ganda said he is humbled by the box office success of his movie.

An article by ABS-CBN News published on January 18 mentioned Vice Ganda saying he is overwhelmed by the movie’s success; however, he stressed that he and the rest of the cast weren’t exactly looking to break box office records.

“Hindi na namin naisip ‘yung record. Ang naisip namin, kailangan maganda itong pelikula, kasi kung puro record lang, puro sales lang ang iisipin mo, hindi ka makakapag-concentrate doon sa produksyon,” he said.

(“We didn’t think about the record. What we were thinking was to assure that the movie is good, because if we just think about the record, just think about the sales, we won’t be able to concentrate on the production.”)

Despite that, the actor said he is happy that the movie is now the highest grossing Filipino film of all time.

“Sobrang saya lang. Ang saya na ako rin ‘yung nakaka-break ng record, nagse-set ng bagong record. Kung tutuusin nakakatakot,” he said.

(“[I’m] so happy. I’m happy I broke the record, I set the new record. In a way, it is scary.”)

Although there is slight fear on what he has achieved, Vice Ganda said that whenever he is making a new movie, he is not thinking of breaking the record, but instead, make sure that their outcome will be appreciated by the viewers.

An article by Manila Coconuts published on January 18 said that the comedian threw a thanksgiving dinner on Sunday and invited a select group of entertainment reporters.

The thanksgiving dinner is to celebrate the movie crossing the P500 million mark and becoming the highest grossing Filipino movie of all time.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako talaga sa inyo dahil nananatili po kayong nagbibigay ng suporta sa amin at nagpapatatag sa amin at nagtatanggol sa akin lalung-lalo na nu’ng mga panahong duguang-duguan ako,” Vice said; talking in front of the entertainment press.

(“I’m really thankful to all of you as you remained supportive to us, strengthening us and defending us, especially those times that I’m really beaten.”)

“Hindi ko ho makakalimutan yon. Yung mga panahong sinamahan n’yo ho ako habang nakikipagdigmaan ako, maraming salamat talaga. Yon po ang lalong nagpatamis ng ipinagdiriwang natin ngayon,” he added.

(“I will never forget those times you were with me on my battles, thank you very much. Those times makes this celebration sweeter.”)
