TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Normally, moms take photos of their kids while they’re doing almost anything. We take pride of what they do, and assume things are always nice and dandy. Or cute.
This is exactly what Stacey Wehrman Feeley thought when she saw her three-year-old daughter quietly balancing on a toilet seat; and she found it rather ‘funny’ that she took a photo of her little child to send to her husband.
In a Facebook post, which has now gone viral, she wrote:
“I took this picture because initially I thought it was funny. I was going to send it to my husband to show what our mischievous little three-year-old was up to.”
Little did she know, there was something disturbing behind Chandler’s action than just mischievousness. The young girl, it turned out, was practicing how to hide inside a toilet cubicle should a shooting happen inside their school. Stacey was left in horror.
“The moment she told me what she was doing I broke down. She was practicing for a lockdown drill at her preschool and what you should do if you are stuck in a bathroom. At that moment all innocence of what I thought my three-year-old possessed was gone.”
With the horrific mass shootings going on in the U.S. from the past years, including that of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting which killed twenty very young students and six of its teachers, there is no question why children, as young as Chandler, have to learn how to save themselves in case the same tragedy happen to them. And Stacey was slapped hard by this realization. She called on to the government to describe the complex kind of life these young children are facing.
