President Duterte remains unshaken with all the issues on diplomacy and humanitarian rights he is facing. In fact, his speech in Davao City tackles the huge possibility of severing ties with the United States and the European Union, despite some disagreement from Filipinos.
Duterte, known for his fearless and direct statements, asked the US President to evaluate the US relation to the Philippines, and if he fails to do so will result to the breakage of a long-time alliance between the two countries. He asked for the respect of his position as the President of the Republic of the Philippines and stressed that he’s not a servant of any nation or international organizations to be reprimanded like a ‘boy’.
“The Americans, the EU, the human rights [groups], the way they talk, they reprimand [me] as if I [were] their ‘boy’. I am not your servant. Don’t do it to me,” said Duterte as per an Inquirer story , in reply to the US leader’s comment that he must execute the war against drugs in ‘the right way’, which received supports from the EU and humanitarian groups who gave accusations of his inaction on the extrajudicial killings happening nationwide.
Duterte also dared Obama to try to cast him out of his presidency or have him assassinated by CIA, pointing out that this was part of his sworn responsibility. In order to do the right way, he added, Obama should file an official complaint to the United Nations. Had the cases been studied by the Human Rights Commission, he would comply for the outcome.
In terms of seeking an independence from the US, he also gave emphasis on the annual war games to be terminated this year as it is beyond the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca), wherein he claimed earlier that these did not benefit Filipino soldiers but the Americans.
“I will not stick with you,” Duterte added; noting on the side the growing support of China and Russia.
