- Kiko Pangilinan has lamented on the bashings that the so called ‘yellowtards’ suffer on social media
- While admitting LP may have committed some ‘missteps’, it was not as bad as the bashers painted it to be
- The LP stalwart also said he actually supports Duterte’s political will
MANILA, Philippines – Liberal Party (LP) acting President and Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan has expressed his dismay over the continuous bashings the so-called ‘yellowtards’ suffer at the hands of some notorious netizens who are mostly supporters of the current administration.
“Yellowtards” is a word coined by netizens to refer to the supporters of the previous administration of former President Benigno ‘PNoy’ Aquino III and his party. On the other hand, “Dutertards” refer to the Duterte supporters.
In an interview with ANC’s Beyond Politics, Pangilinan admitted the LP may have miscalculated the result of the election last May, during which LP bet Mar Roxas lost to Duterte, but the party is not as bad as most bashers painted it to be on social media.
“There were missteps, [but] it is nothing in the level of how poisonous it has been in social media,” said Pangilinan, who’s among the few lawmakers who remain loyal to Aquino and the LP along with Senators Leila De Lima, Bam Aquino and Risa Hontiveros.
“Masyado namang over doon. Lahat na, sinisi sa amin, maski na ang pagpatay kina Rizal at Lapu-Lapu,” he added, referring to the social media b*****g the party members would often get.
[It’s too much on social media. They blame us even for the killing of (Jose) Rizal and Lapu-Lapu.]
Nevertheless, the LP stalwart assured that the party certainly learned from its ‘mistakes’ that would help them form better decisions in the future.
He also called on the people to continue supporting the Duterte administration despite some disagreement with some of the government’s decision on issues like the Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, as well as the allegations of extrajudicial killings brought by the massive campaign against illegal drugs.
“This is the fifth month of this administration. Every administration deserves a chance to serve and lead. Bawat bagong administrasyon ay deserving of a honeymoon period, and some support,” Pangilinan stressed.
At present, Pangilinan said, they will continue to look for programs to support under the Duterte government, especially “in areas where we think there are inspired decisions or policies”.
Personally, he added, he is actually supportive of the Duterte’s political will and of “bringing warring factions to talk.”
