- PNP chief told president main suspect in Korean’s killing now in police custody again
- Duterte had placed a P5M-bounty on Dumlao during press conference
- President also said he again rejected Dela Rosa’s offer to resign
- He explained it would better for them to instead find Korean’s killers
MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa informed President Rodrigo Duterte that Supt. Raphael Dumlao is back in police custody.
The update came in the middle of Duterte’s late Sunday night press conference and shortly before he placed a P5M-bounty on the police official’s head.
“Custody na. Mabuti, Dumlao, abogado ka pa naman [He’s in custody. Good Dumlao, you’re a lawyer after all],” GMA News quoted him as saying.
Earlier during the press conference, Duterte warned Dumlao to surrender peacefully within 24 hours or be captured dead or alive should he remain at large.
“[Expletive] Dumlao ka kung ‘di ka lumabas [Dumlao, if you don’t surrender], I’m giving you exactly 24 hours. And then the reward goes into effect. Dead or alive,” he said.
Dumlao is the main suspect in the abduction and killing of Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo. He earlier left Camp Crame with his wife without permission on Friday and was last seen boarding a taxi with her and his guardian officer Sr. Supt. Benjamin Acorda towards an unknown destination.
During the press conference, Duterte also revealed that he yet again rejected Dela Rosa’s offer to resign. He explained it would be better for them to solve Jee’s case.
“Bato offered to resign yesterday but I declined because it would not contribute anything to the situation,” he said. “The best for us is to go after the persons who did the kidnap-slay.”
