MANILA, Philippines – Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Manny Piñol has revealed that it was not only him who received an expensive Rolex gift from an agricultural company, but also President Rodrigo Duterte and presidential aide Bong Go.

And like him, both officials also returned the Rolex Submariner which is worth P450,000 to the sender.

“In fact hindi lang naman ako, eh. Kinantiyawan ako ni President Duterte no’n, pero in fact siya din binigyan din siya ng Rolex,” Piñol narrated in an interview with GMA News.

[In fact, it was not only me. President Duterte teased me about it, but in fact, he was also gifted with a Rolex.]

“Sinauli niya din. Nauna pa siya. Si Secretary Bong Go, alam ko binigyan din ng Rolex. Pinasauli niya din,” the Agriculture chief further claimed.

[He (Duterte) also returned it. He was the first to do so. Even Secretary Bong Go also received Rolex. He also gave it back.]

Early in December, Piñol revealed through a Facebook post that he was gifted with the expensive watch but resisted the temptation to accept it.

“It’s the season of giving, but sorry we can’t receive,” the official wrote in his post. “Who does not like to own a Rolex anyway?”

But Piñol said he returned the gift ‘respectfully’; knowing that accepting it would be a violation of the law, since that would be tantamount to bribing a government official.

“I know it is Christmas but for us in government, there must be a careful discernment on what kind of Christmas presents we could receive and from whom,” he explained.
