- Miss Universe runner-up thanked Filipino fans for support, said she didn’t expect it
- She vowed to return to PH, learn more about her Filipino roots
- She also said her runner-up finish may open her to other opportunities
MANILA, Philippines – With Miss Universe officially over, a grateful Raquel Pelissier thanked Filipino fans for the support which she admitted surprised her.
Pelissier, who represented Haiti and finish first runner-up in the tilt, said the support local fans gave her was overwhelming.
“I was not expecting so much support and so much love when I came to the Philippines and it was something I have never seen before anywhere in the world so I’m so blessed to be here and to have experienced this amazing journey. Thank you so much, mahal ko kayo [I love you],” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted her as saying.
“It was really loud and it really motivated me. I love the support I had. But I’m still happy that I went that far even if I didn’t win the crown, and I conquered many fears, so it made it even more rewarding,” she added.
The beauty queen, who revealed having Filipino blood through her mother’s side, also promised to come back to the country and learn more about her roots.
Among the places she said she wants to revisit are Baguio, Boracay, and Cebu.
“When we were there, we were so focused on the pageant, and I want to see the views and everything. Since I have Filipino blood, I want to learn more about the culture,” she said.
And despite not winning the overall crown, Pelissier said she was confident that many other doors would open to her in the future.
“I believe in fate. Not winning the crown may mean many other doors may open for me, so I’m just happy and waiting,” she said.
