- Erik Matti said they’ll probably start doing the “Darna” movie this year
- He said it’s a difficult project because it’s not just a movie
- He didn’t mention who will play “Darna”
Award-winning director Erik Matti said that movie adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s Filipino comics heroine “Darna” will be a difficult project to pull off but he revealed that they will probably start doing it this year.
Philippine Entertainment Portal quoted him as saying: “Medyo madugo siya, malaki, maraming-marami siyang galamay kasi hindi lang siya movie, e.”
[It’s hard. It’s big and it will have lots of other things because it’s not just a movie.]
He added that since three years ago, they constantly have meetings in ABS-CBN regarding the project.
When he was asked if there’s already an actress chosen to portray the role, Matti said it’s up to Star Cinema to choose who will be the next Darna.
Last year, he admitted it is hard to replace Angel Locsin, who was originally chosen for the role.
He said: “Mahirap kasi, alam na ni Angel ang nilalaman ng puso ni Darna, e. Now, by starting anew again, whoever she is, kung sino man ang mapili, we need to have the character imbibed sa tao na ‘yun– the character of Darna and Narda, dalawa ‘yun, e. And for such a big movie, ang bigat na burden ‘yun.”
[It will be quite hard because Angel already knows what’s inside Darna’s heart. Now, by starting anew again, whoever she is, whoever will be chosen, we need to have the character imbibed to that person – the characters of Darna and Narda. And for such a big movie, it’s going to be a heavy burden.]
Reports came out last September that Locsin will reprise the role which she portrayed more than a decade ago when she was still under GMA Network.
However, the actress did not confirm or deny anything but she assured the media that she will talk about it when the time comes.
