“There is no ‘Bonnet Gang’ in Mexico, Pampanga,” Mayor Teddy Tumang has assured; allaying fears that there is a certain group that is roaming around the municipality to abduct and rape women.

In an interview posted by GMA News on YouTube, Tumang explained that while the suspects in the recent rape cases in the municipality are wearing a bonnet, such incidents are not enough  to prove the existence of a ‘Bonnet Gang’.

“Hindi po nagpapabaya ang ating kapulisan. Wala pong umiikot na mga Bonnet Gang dito….Hindi naman ganung karami ‘yung mga nare-rape dito sa atin, isolated lang po,” the mayor said.

[Our policemen are not neglecting their responsibilities. There is  no Bonnet Gang here…. In fact, we do not even have a lot of rape cases here, isolated cases only.]

Tumang also clarified that different incidents of rape were found by social worker Josie Soliman of the Child Abuse Protection Network. He said just because the suspects in the said incidents were wearing bonnets, it doesn’t automatically mean they came from one group.

He said they plan to file a case against Soliman for disseminating wrong information and causing panic among the residents.
