- Canadian travel blogger shared photo of experience at Iligan/Marawi checkpoint
- He hung out with security forces manning checkpoint, praised them for their service
- He is also hoping the fighting in Marawi dies down soon
MANILA, Philippines – Canadian travel blogger Kyle “Kulas” Jennermann took to social media to praise the country’s security forces for maintaining the peace amid the mayhem caused by the Maute group in Marawi City.
In his Facebook page BecomingFilipino, Jennermann shared a photo he had with law enforcers manning a checkpoint between Marawi and Iligan City. He said despite the fighting, their morale remains high and their dedication to protect the public is still going strong.
“Just passed through the Iligan City/Marawi Checkpoint on my way home to Cagayan de Oro. So great to see the vibes of the servicemen and women here. Their spirit and dedication to help maintain safety and security for us… Beautiful,” he wrote.
Thanking the men and women for their service, Jennermann said he also was informed the fighting in the city was subsiding — a trend which he hopes will continue.
“They also informed me that firefighting has died down up in Marawi… I hope this is true (and it continues to die down further) and I hope we can all continue to send strength to all these amazing men and women. The courage it must take to do what you do… THANK YOU for still taking moments to share happiness with us!” he said.
Jennermann had earlier lamented his government’s travel advisory warning its citizens to stay away from Mindanao. He said the island’s peace situation should not be generalized as a whole.
The clash between the militant and government forces have resulted in thousands of terrified locals fleeing the city.
