The Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) management surprised riding moms with flowers on Sunday as the world celebrated mothers’ day.
In an article posted by ABS-CBN News on its website on May 14, it was noted that MRT-3 employees distributed flowers to mothers who rode the trains in the Taft, Shaw, Cubao and North Avenue Stations.
“Nabigla ako na nabigyan ako ng flower. Napakasarap sa pakiramdam. Ang ganda-ganda ng araw ko ngayong Mothers’ Day,” one passenger said.
[I was surprised that they gave me a flower. I felt so good about it and it made my day so special.]
Meanwhile, the MRT-3 administration also announced that the agency is expecting to eliminate long lines in its stations by the end of the current year, after it adds more trains in its system to serve around 700,000 passengers.
During an inquiry facilitated by the Senate Committee on Public Services chaired by Sen. Grace Poe, MRT-3 Operations Director Engr. Deo Leo Manalo said that there has already been an improvement in the current situation, especially during off-peak hours.
“Ngayon po, sir, may pila sa peak hours but during off-peak [hours], wala na pong pila. [At the] end of the year, sir, sigurado pong mawawala na ‘yung pila,” Manalo told Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon.
[As of now, sir, there are long lines during peak hours, but there are none during off-peak hours. At the end of the year, sir, there will surely be no lines anymore.]
According to Manalo, the MRT-3 currently operates 23 trains, but it expects additional units by 2018.
However, the agency also expects an increase in the number of passengers from the current 500,000 per day to 800,000 in 2019.
