- DND Sec. Loranzana said Duterte going to White House is still not confirmed as he has to think about it and he’s busy
US President Donald Trump wants Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to be his guest at the White House before the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in November, according to Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Loranzana.
Duterte’s acceptance of Trump’s invitation is still unconfirmed as the president has to think about it and he is busy, Loranzana said as disclosed in an Inquirer story.
“But let’s see how things develop from now until maybe early October or late November because what President Trump want is for him to go there before the ASEAN Summit in November.”
In a White House statement, meanwhile, it said the US President wants to talk to Duterte and discuss about the importance of the US-Philippines Alliance.
Earlier, in a May 1st Philippine Star article, it was disclosed that Duterte is still unsure if he would go to Washington because he’s “tied-up” and has other trips to Russia and Israel scheduled.
“No, because I’m tied up. I cannot make any definite promise,” he said.
