Steve Kerr has been out for the last five weeks of the NBA playoffs with a back injury. The injury is a complication from a surgery he had in 2015 which led to spinal fluid leaking. The leaks have led to nausea, pain and general inability to do his job as an NBA head coach.
“As of right now, I will not coach Thursday night,” Kerr said when asked about Game 1.
Interim Warriors’ coach Mike Brown was down with a flu on Monday, so Kerr ran the Warriors practice then spoke to the media, but said he still is battling issues from his back surgery and is not ready yet to return to the sidelines.
“I told the team the good news is the team is really healthy, but the bad news is the coaching staff is dropping like flies,” Kerr said. “So hopefully Mike will be back tomorrow.”
The Warriors and Cavaliers meet for a third straight NBA finals in the coming weeks. The Cavaliers won a thrilling series last season over seven games.
