Eleven minors who are being used as drug couriers were rescued by authorities during a buy-bust operation conducted by the City Intelligence Branch of the Cebu City Police Office against a female drug dealer on Saturday, June 3.
19-year-old Mae Marice Jakosalem, the main target of the anti-illegal drug operation, was arrested along with three other suspects – Ann Abellana, 20; Wilfredo Gutas, 37; and Marlon Ylaya, 47 – inside a hotel along Colon Street.
According to Sun Star, the minors, whose ages range from 11 to 17, were also found inside the hotel room with the suspects and were rescued by the police.
“This is the biggest rescue we made involving minors being used as couriers for shabu. And this is very alarming,” Chief Inspector Christopher Nevada said.
The raiding team recovered 120 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P500,000 from Jakosalem.
The minors were turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
