Members of the Bangsamoro Islamic freedom Fighters (BIFF) attacked a military detachment in Maguindanao early Sunday morning, June 4. A soldier and three of the attackers were killed in the ensuing firefight.
According to Capt. Arvin Encinas, spokesman of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, an undetermined number of Islamic extremists attacked the 40th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Tukanalipao, in Mamasapano. Soldiers manning the detachment stood their ground and engaged the enemies in a fierce gun battle until the attackers withdrew with their casualties.
The BIFF members left four caliber 45 pistols, one 9mm caliber pistol, an improvised explosive device, magazines and ammunition and other war materials during their escape.
As per Malaya, the slain soldier, a corporal, has not yet been identified pending the notification of his family.
A pursuit operation has been launched against the Islamic militants.
