- Alleged senior member of Maute group denied links with militants
- He said he’s not a bombmaker, claimed his friends and family can attest to his innocence
- He also explained reason in CDO, said he had escaped Marawi to clear his name
MANILA, Philippines – A man whom authorities tagged as a bomb expert and senior member of the Maute terrorist group has denied being affiliated with the militants in anyway.
Mohammad Noaim Maute, alias Abu Jadid, who was captured in Cagayan de Oro early Thursday, insisted he was no bombmaker and said his friends and family can attest to his innocence
[I am not involved with what is happening right now. Allegations that I am a bomb expert are not true. I know that my name is clean. I have friends and relatives in Manila and in Mindanao who know me and it’s true that I did nothing wrong.]
Reported to be a relative of the group’s Omarkhayam and Abdullah Maute, he was captured after producing a fake Mindanao State University student ID with the name “Alfaiz P. Mamintal”.
However, Maute said he had no choice but to escape to Cagayan de Oro to try and clear his name after finding out he was among those included in the arrest order of Defense Secretary and martial law administrator Delfin Lorenzana.
[I was afraid that something like this would happen because I tried to escape when my photo in Marawi City appeared. I tried to escape to clear my name so that the photo would be taken down.]
