MANILA, Philippines – Senator JV Ejercito has urged the Department of Tourism (DOT) to keep the old ‘It’s more fun in the Philippines’ slogan as this has become known worldwide over the past years.
Ejercito’s request came after the DOT launched its new campaign with the new slogan ‘Experience the Philippines’, which has polarized many social media users.
“The old ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines’ ad slogan should no longer be changed because it is very appropriate and is already known to the world. Just like the ‘Malaysia, Truly Asia’ campaign slogan of Malaysia,” said Ejercito.
Also, the lawmaker added, the new tourism campaign needs new funds to promote, while sticking with the old slogan would be an advantage as it has already established a name recall among local and foreign tourists.
Ejercito said he doesn’t see any further need to change the slogan everytime a new administration takes over.
The DOT is currently under fire for its latest promotional video which has been accused of ‘plagiarizing’ a distinctively similar tourism video of South Africa.
But Tourism Assistant Secretary Frederick Alegre defended the ad; saying it was not a ‘rip-off, but definitely an ‘experiential’.
“Our ad that was released yesterday was beautifully executed. While it has similarity with the ads of South Africa, the biggest difference really is that is a true story. The Japanese retiree is an actual retiree residing in the Philippines,” Alegre explained.
