MANILA, Philippines – Actress Angel Locsin gave younger colleague Liza Soberano three of her long-cherished Darna comics; in hopes they can help her prepare her role as the Filipina superheroine.
“Those comic books are special to me kasi ibinigay sa akin iyon during the time noong unang beses akong maging ‘Darna.’ So 10 years ago na iyon and for 10 years tinago ko talaga iyon at inalagaan ko. Sana makatulong iyon sa kanya kagaya ng naitulong sa akin. And one day, sana maipasa din niya iyon sa susunod na Darna rin,” she told ABS-CBN.
[Those comic books are special to me because they were given to me when I first started out as Darna. That was 10 years ago and for 10 years I kept and took care of them. I hope they can help her the way they helped me. And one day, she can pass them on to the next Darna.]
Locsin also praised Soberano; saying she deserves to play Darna given her good looks, acting chops, and dedication to her work.
“Kung kanino ko man ipapasa iyong bato, gusto ko deserving. And I think si Liza, sobrang deserve niya iyong character talaga. Bukod sa napakagandang mukha, magaling na aktres, mabuting tao, mahal niya iyong trabaho niya, at grabe rin iyong charisma niya –napakaimportante iyon. I think panahon na para i-welcome natin ang bagong Darna,” she said.
[To whoever I’ll pass the stone, I want her to be deserving. And I think Liza, she really deserves to be this character. Aside from her beautiful looks, she’s also a good actress, a good person, she loves her work, and most importantly, she has great charisma. I think it’s time we welcome the new Darna.]
Locsin added she is very much willing to mentor and share her experience with Soberano.
“Nandito lang ako. Kausapin lang niya ako. At sana mahalin lang talaga niya iyong karakter. Kasi ako mahal na mahal ko talaga iyong character na iyon eh,” she said.
[I’m just here. She just has to talk to me. And I hope she will really love her character. Because I really, really love that character.]
