- Video shows captured Maute terror suspect with other militants
- Footage reportedly taken in Butig, Lanao del Sur
- Suspect had earlier denied being a member of Maute group
MANILA, Philippines – A video recording of captured Maute terror suspect Mohammad Noaim Maute, alias Abu Jadid, together with other members of the militant group has been released.
According to GMA News, the footage of Jadid with his peers had been taken in Butig, Lanao del Sur.
It also noted that several other members seen in the video were among those fighting the military in Marawi City.
If verified, the video would negate Jadid’s claim being not affiliated with the group.
Tagged by the authorities as a bomb expert, Jadid earlier insisted on his innocence after being arrested in Cagayan de Oro.
“Wala po akong kinalaman sa mga nangyayari ngayon. ‘Yung mga binintang nila sa akin na sinabi nilang bomb expert ako, hindi totoo yun. Alam ko pong malinis ‘yung pangalan ko. May mga kaibigan din po ako dito na alam nila kung ano ako pati mga kamag-anak, mga kaibigan sa Maynila, dito sa Mindanao. Alam po nila kung ano ako pero totoo po wala akong ginawang masama,” he said after his apprehension.
[I am not involved with what is happening right now. Allegations that I am a bomb expert are not true. I know that my name is clean. I have friends and relatives in Manila and in Mindanao who know me and it’s true that I did nothing wrong.]
However, officials said Jadid, a relative of Maute brotehrs Omarkhayam and Abdullah, was an active and senior member of the group.
The Palace also welcomed his capture and described it as a positive development to resolve the crisis in Marawi.
“This, we consider a positive development in our campaign to end rebellion in Marawi to flush out evil forces and to bring peace to the island of Mindanao,” presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said.
