- Two former rogue cops nabbed in drug bust in Cebu
- The suspects identified as 34-year-old Aaron “Vampire” Estarte and 55-year-old Joseph Burlas
- The two, being former cops, are considered high value targets
Two former cops were arrested in separate anti-illegal drug operations in Cebu last Saturday, June 17.
The two, being former police officers, are considered as high value targets level 2, according to Chief inspector Maria Theresa Macatangay, chief of Police Station 2 of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).
Macatangay identified the suspects as 34-year-old Aaron “Vampire” Estarte and 55-year-old Joseph Burlas.
According to Cebu Daily News, Burlas, who had the rank of Police Officer 1 (PO1) when he retired from police service in 2015, was a former member of the anti-illegal drugs and intelligence division of CPPO. He held the rank of Police Officer 3 prior to his retirement, but because of several administrative cases, he was demoted to PO1.
A few hours earlier, Estarte, who was last assigned at the Regional Public Safety Battalion 7 in Sibonga, Cebu, was arrested after accepting marked money from a police undercover agent who posed as a buyer of shabu.
Estarte’s arrest came after a drug suspect pointed to a certain alias Vampire as his source of illegal drugs. It turned out that “Vampire” is none other than Estarte.
