- SAF trooper staged a fake raid on chapel, stole P200K and valuables from vault
- He perpetrated the heist using two inmates he dressed up in SAF uniforms
- He later confessed his crime to chaplain
MANILA, Philippines – Charges of robbery have been filed against a member of the PNP Special Action Force for divesting P200K and valuables from the chapel of the National Bilibid Prisons (NBP).
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Benjamin Delos Santos said the charges were filed against Sgt. Roger Opong after he confessed his crime to the prison chaplain.
According to Delos Santos, Opong made two inmates wear SAF uniforms and staged a fake raid on the chapel premises.
Ang binuksan ay vault na may lamang salapi at tinangay,” the Philippine News Agency quoted him as saying.
[He used two PDLs as cohorts whom he dressed in SAF uniforms and with whom he pretended to stage a raid for shabu. The vault he opened contained money which he took.]
Delos Santos said Opong later on told Fr. Robert Olaguer of his misdeed during confession.
[After a while, this sergeant went for confession to the chaplain of that chapel and admitted that he was the one who robbed them, along with the two PDL he dressed in uniforms.]
Aside from asking for forgiveness, the erring policeman also told Olaguer that he could no longer return what he stole.
[He said, forgive me. We can’t return it anymore because we lost. The TV, I also can’t return it because I don’t know where it is.]
