A nine-year-old boy was shot and wounded by an American national in New Washington, Aklan Sunday night, July 16.

As per the Manila Bulletin, the suspect, identified as 61-year-old Lewis Sanderson, was collared by responding policemen at his residence in Barangay Fatima, New Washington.

Based on the initial investigation, the police said the American was probably irked after seeing the boy climbing a mango tree in front of his rented property and fired a shot to scare away the boy and his companion.

The boy said he run away after he heard a gunshot, but later realized that he was hit when he saw his arm bleeding.

Sanderson claimed the boy and his companion, who was not identified, were throwing stones at his fishpond. He said he did not mean to hurt the boy. The boy denied Sanderson’s claim and said they were only there to pick mangoes.

The suspect is now detained while criminal charges are being readied against him.
