The prank bomb threat calls that disrupted classes in all public schools in Cebu City were traced by police to a mobile phone owned by a public school teacher in Isabela province.
The Cebu City Police coordinated with Isabela Police to find the prank caller.
As per an Inquirer story, the phone number used to make the prank calls, 0935-1080039, was identified via the Caller ID feature of the Department of Education-Cebu City’s telephone. The number was traced to Karen Mae Calautit, a 27-year-old public high school teacher in Ilagan City in Isabela.
Calautit said she was surprised when her husband, a policeman assigned at the Regional Police Office in Cagayan Valley, called to inform her that her phone number was used to make bomb threats.
“He told me that my cellphone number was used in a series of bomb hoax in Cebu City. I was really shocked. I couldn’t help but cry,” the teacher said.
Calautit immediately went to the police station to clear her name. She claimed she lost her phone two months ago. She hoped the real culprit will be identified and put behind bars.
