Ka Tunying’s branch right in front of GMA pays ‘no-endo’ regular employees, same as 2 other branches at Vis. Av. and NAIA Terminal 3

“Filipino Comfort Food at its Finest! Taste our very own unique Filipino signature dishes and our fresh everyday breads only here at Ka Tunying’s Café!” says the resto-business owned by no other than Anthony Taberna, commonly known as Ka Tunying.

His business, which only started as a community bakeshop in his hometown of Nueva Ecija in 2002, is now a Filipino comfort food restaurant with three branches in Metro Manila.

One of the branches of Ka Tunying’s is located right in front of GMA Network, which Taberna described as “my employer’s fiercest competitor.”

He explained that this was not intentional. He and his wife initially wanted to have Ka Tunying’s in the vicinity of ABS-CBN, but they were unable to secure a spot, and so they ended up opening across GMA, which is just a few minutes away.

He said with a smile, “At least doon, hindi ako tinatantanan!” (from GMA News anchor Mike Enriquez’ famous line.)

This branch of Ka Tunying’s has since been supported not only by Kapamilyas, Taberna’s friends and fans, but also employees and talents of GMA Network.

Taberna happily shared that his three Ka Tunying’s branches – the two others are located at Visayas Avenue and Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, are doing well.

Taberna, who has been praised by viewers for his “hard-hitting” opinions on current issues, seem to put to life what he speaks against at his tv/radio shows.

“Halos lahat ng staff namin ay regular employees,” (almost all of our staff are regular employees) he said, noting how he has been tackling the issue of contractual labor in the country. “Hindi puwedeng may ‘endo,’ (end of contract) you have to practice what you preach,” he added.

Taberna said they have been planning a system for franchising for Ka Tunying’s after receiving several queries from interested parties.
