Gilas Pilipinas will open its Jones Cup campaign versus Canada on July 15. Gilas will play a total of nine games in nine days in the Taipei Invitational tournament.
After their opening game against the Canadians, the Filipino squad will take on Taipei A, Taipei B, Japan, Korea, Iraq, Lithuania, India and Iran.
“Nine games in nine days versus Lithuania, Canada, Iran, Korea, Japan, India, Iraq, ROC A and B. This year’s Jones Cup field is tough,” said Gilas coach Chot Reyes via Philippine Star.
In order to beef up the Philippine Teams lineup, they asked the services of Mike Myers.
The 6’8″ forward will be Gilas Pilipinas’ reinforcement for the upcoming tournament and head coach Chot Reyes confirmed Myers’ participation in the annual tournament.
“We’re pretty set with Mike, he’s already agreed,” Reyes said via ABS-CBN Sports.
“We like Mike’s attitude,” Reyes said of the Myers.
“He might not be the most talented, but the important thing is he’s willing to work with the young guys. He’s gonna work with us as well,” he added.
Coach Chot Reyes has yet to announce a Jones Cup lineup, but already set with TNT stand-in import Mike Myers.
Games will be live on TV5, Aksyon TV and sports5.ph/live.
