Thursday, July 27, Manila was hit by heavy rains brought by tropical storm “Gorio” and the southwest monsoon; making some of the busy streets “impassable” to all vehicles. But what “impassable” and “all vehicles” mean have been defied by a bus shown on a photo shared by Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan on Facebook. The moment was captured during a flood on R. Papa Street; just below the LRT station around 10:30 AM.
Caloocan’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council told ABS-CBN News that the flood was caused by rains and high tide.
Based on the monitoring by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), floods have also been reported in other parts of Metro Manila.
State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) earlier said “Gorio” continues to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat.
PAGASA also warned of possible floods in the Ilocos, Central Luzon, Cordillera, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Western Visayas regions.
Effective 1 PM, Malacanang has suspended work in all government offices in Metro Manila.
