MANILA, Philippines – With the Filipino language option just recently launched this month, Waze is now looking for a local male celebrity who could voice the navigation app.
Speaking to Cathy Yang of ANC‘s Market Edge, Waze Asia Pacific Regional Lead Mona Weng said they decide to launch in Filipino voice as part of their effort to improve the app’s user experience in the Philippines.
“We want to provide our users with more choices. Even though Filipinos have amazing English, we want peole to have a choice of using English, or Filipino,” Weng said.
The app’s voice command features will also allow users to avoid holding their device while driving as doing so would be a violation of the adjusted Anti-Distracted Driving Law (ADDL).
As to the who could be voicing the male option, Weng said they are looking for a Filipino celebrity and suggestions from netizens are certainly most welcome.
“We are looking for our first male celebrity voice. We’d love to hear from netizens and people across the Philippines who they would want to hear navigate them around,” she said.
Earlier netizens took to social media their choices of female celebrities which include comedian Rufa Mae Quinto and actress-host Kris Aquino.
For the male counterpart, witty netizens picked either Kuya Kim Atienza or Leo Martinez, among others.
So who’s your choice?
