Davao City Mayor Sara “Inday” Duterte proudly announced during the Kadayawan Festival that Davao City will be next year’s host for the much anticipated Cobra Ironman Triathlon 2018. It is set to take place on March 25, 2018 at the Alcantara Ayala Land Property in Lanang, Davao City.
For the past six years, the sports event has already been set in Mactan, Cebu. The recent Ironman race last August was filled with around 2,700 athletes, former world champions and spectators from over 45 countries.
According to Cobra Ironman Triathlon official website, “The event also boasts of the one biggest and most complete triathlon expo to date.” It is usually supported by famous personalities, celebrities, champions and even politicians, making it THE biggest and brightest race in Asia.”
Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) office-in-charge Michael Denton Aportadera is confident that Davao City is ready and the city has prepared for the resources needed. He said, “Mayor Inday (Duterte) gave her message around the world, inviting foreign and national athletes to grace the event.”
He and Mayor Sara believe that the event will strongly help boost the city’s tourism and image especially to foreign tourists. Aportadera added, “Just imagine if that will happen to Davao City. It will be a great help to the city as it will surely boost our economy and tourism.”
Aportadera already met with the Cebu organizers where he observed the necessary preparations needed. He will also meet up with Davao triathlon community for consultation. He is positive that the event will be able to gain a good number of participants because of the city’s good reputation.
