During a recent surprise inspection in Cebu, the Police found illegal drugs and tally sheets for illegal gambling inside a jail. What a bad timing to get caught; just when news of ‘bonuses’ were soon to become a reality.

Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III said all regular and casual employees in the province would receive a bonus of Php10,000 each except for guards at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).

The announcement regarding the ‘bonus’ was made during the 448th founding anniversary celebration at the Cebu Provincial Capitol held on Sunday, August 6.

Gov. Davide pointed out that the bonus was for “superior achievements and accomplishments” of the Capitol employees.

However, the governor said that he is not happy with the performance of CPDRC guards after the “Operation Greyhound” yielded sachets of illegal drugs and tally sheets of illegal gambling.

Gov. Davide warned: “Pagtinarong mo diha sa (Better shape up those assigned at the) CPDRC. Heads will roll. I can assure you, heads will roll.”

The CPDRC is the home of the “CPDRC dancers” or the “Cebu Dancing Inmates”. The group is a collective of prison inmates in CPDRC, a maximum security prison in Cebu, Philippines where the prisoners perform dance routines as part of their daily exercise and rehabilitation, and many of their performances were filmed and released online; making them a popular feature among fans and online celebrities.
