Many still can’t get over the fact that ‘Torn’ was just a cover by Natalie.
‘Torn’ was actually a double cover of a kind according to Digital Spy as it was written in 1993 by Scott Cutler and Anne Preven with their band Ednaswap performing it live.
However, the first recorded version came in the same year, but not in English. It was entitled ‘Brændt’ (‘Burned’) sung by a Danish singer Lis Sørensen with Ednaswap releasing a recorded version in 1995.
Imbruglia then decided to to work with the original producer Phil Thornalley. In 1997, her version took over the world.
Internet learned about this from what’s supposed to be a joke on Twitter.
The original joke read: “Every ’90s kid comes of age 3 times: 18th birthday, 21st birthday, the day they find out Natalie Imbruglia’s version of ‘Torn’ is a cover.”
every "90s kid" comes of age 3 times:
• 18th birthday
• 21st birthday
• the day they find out natalie imbruglia's version of torn is a cover
